What MedibandPlus is
MedibandPlus is an online medical ID and emergency profile, built for Australians and backed by Mediband, which has been making medical identification since 2004.
The idea is deliberately simple, and it splits into two halves:
- The record — a secure online profile holding as much medical detail as you want to give it. Unlimited length, editable any time.
- The key — a short membership number that unlocks it. Small enough to engrave on a wristband, print on a card, or hold in a QR code.
An engraved band on its own can carry perhaps four lines. A profile can carry your whole history. Pairing them means the thing you wear stays readable, while the detail lives somewhere a responder can reach in seconds.
What the profile holds
You decide what goes in and what is visible. A typical profile carries:

How it works, in three steps
- Create your profile. Add conditions, medications, allergies, contacts and any care instructions. Takes a few minutes, and you can change any of it whenever you like.
- Carry the membership number. Have it engraved on a Mediband wristband, or keep it on a wallet card. That number is the key to the record — see what to put on your medical wristband.
- A responder looks you up. Ambulance, hospital or bystander enters the number at medibp.com on any phone. They see exactly what you chose to share, and nothing else.
Why there is no login
This is the design decision that matters most, and it is worth explaining because it sounds counter-intuitive for something holding health data.
A paramedic kneeling next to an unconscious stranger has no way to authenticate as that person. Any system requiring a password, an app or a fingerprint is, in that exact moment, useless. So the membership number itself is the credential, and you control what a lookup reveals — the profile shows what you chose to publish, not your entire file.
That is the trade the whole product rests on: enough detail to treat you safely, no more than you agreed to share, reachable by someone who has never met you.
MedibandPlus and My Health Record are not the same thing
This is the most common question, and the two are complementary rather than competing.

Having a My Health Record is a good thing and MedibandPlus does not replace it. They answer different questions: one is your clinical history for your care team, the other is the summary a stranger needs in the first ten minutes.
Who it is for
- Anyone with a condition that can take away speech — epilepsy, diabetes, heart conditions, stroke risk. See online medical records for chronic conditions.

- People on blood thinners, where a fall or a bleed is managed very differently.
- Older people living alone, and anyone with dementia who may not be able to give a history.

What it costs
Membership is a single yearly price starting from $19 a year, GST included, with no joining fee and no lock-in. What MedibandPlus is not
Worth being straight about the boundaries.
- It is not a monitoring service. Nobody is watching a screen. It does not detect a fall or call anyone for you — in an emergency, someone still has to dial 000.
- It is not medical advice. It stores and shows what you put in. It does not assess, diagnose or treat.
- It is not a replacement for talking to your doctor, or for an action plan written by your specialist — though the profile is a sensible place to note that one exists.
- It is not a substitute for first aid. The information helps whoever is already helping you. Learning what to do still matters — start with DRSABCD.
Privacy and control
The service is Australian-based and the data is encrypted. More importantly, you choose what appears when someone looks you up, and you can change or remove any of it at any time. Nothing is published that you have not put there deliberately.
The practical privacy question is not really technical, it is editorial: what would you want a stranger to know about you if you could not speak, and what would you rather they did not? MedibandPlus is built so you get to answer that yourself.
